Our Mozambique Partner in Ministry

SUMC’s friendship with Antonio Macilau began in the summer of 2007 when a team from Sugarloaf served in Chicuque, Mozambique.  Antonio had the summer off as was attending seminary at Africa University in Zimbabwe and served as our team’s interpretor.  The following summer Antonio came to SUMC to serve as a summer intern.

Our friendship with Antonio broadens as he continues his studies and practices ministry back in Mozambique.   Please read below about his current and future plans.

Update from Antonio to Sugarloaf UMC – September 09

Dear Brother and Sisters.

Allow me to take this opportunity to share little bit about my life. It was so good to came back home and stay some days with my family, friends and brothers in christ. I real love the way i was welcomed.

Im now working at Chimoio parish as Associate Pastor and also doing master degree in IPLG (Peace, Leadership and Governance). Im addition for that the DS indicated me to be the leader of communication and connection with other sisters church. Its a hard work but im very happy. God is doing wonders in my life. I can ensure you brothers that Im losing weight because of work...I must think where to find other church which can be our partners, think about my studies, My special ministry" The Bread and Tea Ministry" and try to organize the church where Im. I have no day for rest. Every week I travel with DS to show me the district and during the week Im at School.

Im becoming a small American, because in america time is money and everybody are busy, people live with calenders all the time.

On Sunday we had one of our meeting with the PEOPLE who are on Bread and Tea committee. We discussed so many things but the most important was to chose the day and month that we can start this ministry. We came up with November, 7. and we also discuss on how we will involve the Government on this project. We decided to invite some people from Africa University, the Dean of faculty of Theology, two Lecturers and two students. We also decided to invite the Governor of cHIMOIO and the City Center Council.

Brother and Sister, We know that all what we are planning cant work when we are alone, so please keep praying for us as we pray for you. We believe God will make it happen.

One thing Im trying to do is to have a small office at the Church where we can have internet access. With it any one who want to have counseling meeting can come and meet the pastor, also even if Im not in mozambique people from church can be able to communicate with others through email. all this are on my mind and I hope one day It will happening and I will be very happy.

I would love to receive your email telling me how is the Church and all activities going on. Our network here is very slow and most of the time its down so dont feel discouraged when i dont answer your email immediately, its not my fold but our network.

I pray that god continue blessing and use all of us on what and where HE want.

Your in Christ,
Antonio

Miss you so much

 Missionary Support

Dear friends and family,

It is crazy to think that almost nine months have gone by since returning from Mexico and moving to the States. Pam and I have missed our regular correspondence since moving back, and wanted to share with you some of the things that have been going on in our lives since our return. I know this email is awfully long, but I would ask you, please, to read it in its entirety as we have some big news you wont get to until towards the end.

Where We've Been:

When we arrived in Georgia towards the end of June, Pam started working at a Mexican restaurant in Suwanee, GA while I was looking for something a little more substantial. We were living at my parents house during that time, which was an amazing blessing.

As I was looking for a job, Pam and I were praying that God would not only open the door for a job opportunity, but also one that would lend itself to cross-cultural ministry. At the beginning of August, I found a job (praise the Lord!!) as a leasing consultant for an apartment community in Norcross. We moved into an apartment in Norcross shortly thereafter, and started to find out the extent of which God had answered our prayer. He had blessed us financially (of course) and in ministry, as we now live within 2 miles of at least 3 mosques, a Pakistani/Indian mall, the largest Hindu temple outside of India, and the opportunity to use our Spanish almost as much as we did in Mexico.

Also, towards the beginning of September, Pam was offered a job as one of the lead teachers in a preschool program with Sugarloaf United Methodist Church teaching two year olds and younger, as well as an assistant teaching job with a Montessori Schools after-school program. Pam is loaded with stories of all of her teaching adventures over the last several months.

As far as current ministry is concerned, Pam and I have been meeting weekly to be discipled by our good friends, Nathan and Heather. They have seven kids and have been in the ministry for years, and we have been so blessed to learn under them on a regular basis. We have also been spending regular time with an Iraqi family, who has become dear friends to us as we seek to learn together the pathway of Jesus, which brings us into the Kingdom of God. I wish we could tell some of the amazing testimonies of these times together, but Ill save that for another (hopefully shorter) email.

The long and short of it is, God has been answering prayers, providing so faithfully for us, teaching us, and allowing us to continue ministering to people from all over the world!!

Where We're Going:

As we continue to learn what it looks like to live life in the States, Pam and I will also be starting back up with school in mid-March in preparation for some of the missions opportunities that we see in the future. Pam will be starting with a nursing program here in GA, planning to get an Associates RN, which will allow her to work as a nurse, and gain experience, as she finishes out her Bachelor's degree. I will be getting general coursework out of the way in a community college, before transferring to another school to pursue a degree in International Business.
But all of that is not nearly as important as the news that we have to share with you
We are having a baby!! Pam is just about to start the seventeenth week on this incredible journey, and our little one is due August 2nd. We are both beside ourselves with excitement. Pam handled the first trimester with nausea, fatigue, and as much grace as youve ever seen in a pregnant woman, and we are both excited that most of the misery of that stage is subsiding, giving way to the fun part of just getting bigger.
Please continue to pray for us. God has been so good, and has continued to be faithful to all of His promises. Pray that he would mold us, conforming us more to the image of Christ, so that we would be the best mommy and daddy that we could possibly be. Pray that we would figure out some kind of balance of sanity as we embark on full-time work, full-time school, and soon, full-time child raising. Ahh what fun following the Lord is!! Dont you think?
I hope your last nine months have been as full of adventure as ours have been. Please let us know what is going on in your life. Were a lot better with emails now with this high-tech Internet we just got. You know, the kind that actually works for more than five minutes without losing the signal. Hope to talk to you soon!
With lots of love,
Tucker, Pam, and Baby Martin

Please keep Tucker and Pam in your prayers and if you would like more info:
