Matthew 28:19 – Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Here at SUMC, we reflect our core values (Worship God, Grow Your Life, Serve the World) in all that we do.  In adult education, this means providing opportunities for worshipping, growing, and serving through groups that engage each of us in the growth of our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Knowledge of the Bible is essential in our faith walk and Bible studies are held throughout the year.

In addition, studies that grow our lives in other ways are regularly offered – whether finances or parenting or another life area, we seek to help one another become the followers of Christ that we are each called to be in every area of life.  There are regular Sunday morning classes that are always open to anyone and groups that meet throughout the week.

In a church the size of Sugarloaf, it is essential to relate to a smaller group within the church.  Everyone is encouraged and expected to become part of a group to assist in growing our faith together as a body.  We have two primary types of groups – larger Community Groups and smaller Grow Groups.  Each of these  groups offer the advantage of getting to know others and being involved in the ministry of the church.

Our philosophy is Every Adult Deeper in developing their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the faith-walk each of us undertakes in our Christian life.

There are several tiers to this process.  For someone who is visiting and just checking out SUMC to see who we are and what we are about, we provide a low-pressure environment to them as they decide whether this is a place for them to connect.  In continuing to visit, they will be encouraged to join us in our mission.

Once a visitor decides they are interested in knowing more about Sugarloaf United Methodist Church, they will sign-up for the Starting Point class.  Starting Point is the entry point for membership and for those who just want to learn more about SUMC.  This is a 4-week course (with a 5th week campus tour optional) that covers what it means to be a Christian, what SUMC’s core values are and introduces the group to each of the ministry areas within the church.  By the end of the time together, the Starting Point group will be connected to each other and will have met many long-time, engaged leaders in the congregation.  You will know who SUMC is and what we are about.  You will also have been challenged to plug into a group that will help you grow in your faith and an area of service should you decide to call this your church home.
