COACHING:
SOAR is always in need of coaches for our young athletes.  Coaching a team requires a little more that a 2 hour weekly commitment.  The coach is required to hold a 1 hour practice during the week and then attend a 1 hour game on Saturdays.  The coach will be given a list of available practice times.  Each coach with be given a coaching manual and training prior to the first practice.  We also ask that the coaches are present during the pre-season skills evaluation day.

SOAR is currently in need of coaches for all of our youth sports programs:

  • FALL:
Soccer (especially in the pre-k and kindergarten divison)
    Flag Football
  • WINTER:
    Basketball (Boys and Girls Teams)
  • SPRING:
    T-Ball (Pre-K Division and K-1st Grade Division)
    Flag Football

The easiest way to sign up to be a coach is to do so during Online Registration.  You can also put your name in the Coach Request spot on your child's waiver & registration form.
TEAM PARENTS:
As a Team Parent, you will be helping the coach so that he/she can focus on the coaching.  You can volunteer to be a team parent initially by responding positively in the Volunteer Section during online registration.  SOAR is highly successful because of the coaches and parents like you who volunteer to help us.  As a team parent you will be assisting your coach in an efficient manner and helps you to serve your team families in such a manner that everyone has a wonderful experience at SOAR Youth Sports

  • HOW TO SIGN UP:  Once your child is assigned to a team, you are encouraged to approach your coach and let him know that you are available to help with the team responsibilities.  As soon as you are designated as your team's parent, please send the followng information to Kevin Clement.

  • SNACK SCHEDULE:  Most teams will assign one week of the season to each parent on the team for that parent to provide snacks for the team following the game. You will create and distribute this schedule as soon as possible. Provide snack suggestions for the parents. Please remember to clean up your space after each game. Be sensitive that there are other teams that play on the fields and court throughout the day. Make sure that all snack leftovers are discarded appropriately.  Also, please check for any food allergies or food restrictions of the team and please be very conscious of this for safety and courtesy.  Your coach will be given a roster that will list any of food allergies and restrictions, but please double check with all of your parents, just in case anything was overlooked.

  • COACH GIFT IDEAS:  If a team wishes, they may want to provide their coach or coaches with some sort of gift at the end of season party to say “Thank You” for their time commitment, leadership and support of your team.  Some team parents will figure how much coach’s gifts, lettering, and the team party will cost and ask for one lump sum so that they are not asking for extra money all season.  SOAR  will provide a way for you to order a coach’s plaque, gift card or some other kind of coach’s gift towards the end of the season.  If you have a student that is involved with Student Life at Sugarloaf UMC a great way to show your appreciation would be in making a donation into their Summer Mission Trip fund.  This would help offset the cost of their summer mission trips that they will be serving on if you would like more information please contact Kevin Clement, Director of SOAR.

  • END OF SEASON CELEBRATION:  At the end of the season, we will be having a SOAR End of Season Celebration.  This will most likely be on the week following the last game of the season.  Please check the SOAR Calendar for the “Official Date”.  We ask that the Team Parent help the coach to provide a team head count for the event.  On the night of the event we ask that you assist as a “Hostess/Host” for your team and their families.  As always any assistance that you could provide for event set-up or clean-up would be greatly appreciated.

SPONSOR A SOAR ATHLETE:
The SOAR Youth Sports Program is not only a ministry outreach, but a community outreach as well. Our scholarship program allows those in financial need the ability to provide their children with the fun and exciting experience the league so proudly offers. Each season, the league provides scholarships to its participants, and with each new season we are looking for more ways to help those in need.  In return for a scholarship, we ask the parents to volunteer and serve within the program by being a coach, an assistant coach, team parent, official/referee, photographer or game day/celebration volunteer.  If you would like to sponsor a SOAR athlete, please contact
Kevin Clement at or more information.

ARE YOU CURRENTLY ON A TEAM OR COACHING A TEAM?
There is a great outreach ministry opportunity available if you are currently on a team that is playing in an area league.  These are perfect opportunities to share your faith, pray before and after your game with your teammates, opponents and officials, and share Christ.  Please let SOAR know that you are out there and we can help you spread the Good News.

Whether you are a High School, Middle School and Recreation League athlete, while you are not playing in SOAR, you are part of our family and we want to know where you are playing.  Please send us your name, team, and schedule so we can keep track of you, your team and season.
